Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Les Garrigues celebrated its 40th anniversary in the fall of 2015. The celebration kicked off with a ceremony held at La Llotja in Lleida, which brought together top representatives of the Administration as well as the leaders of the agricultural sector.
The event, supported by Generalitat de Catalunya and Diputació de Lleida, was an act of recognition to all the people, organisations and authorities who had actively participated in the PDO’s 40 years of history. Among the people recognised were former members of the Regulatory Board, such as Pere Bofías (President of the Provisional Board) or Ramon Flix, President of the First Regulatory Board; the former minister of Agriculture Josep Grau; different representatives of local media outlets who have served as spokespeople and leaders for the agrarian sector and the territory; as well as the administrations, both Diputació de Lleida and Generalitat de Catalunya, for their support to Designation of Origin Les Garrigues through its 40 years of history.
The ceremony was also an homage to the 23 registered cooperatives which make up PDO Les Garrigues currently, and which work every day to produce an increasingly competitive and internationally admired oil. Photos from the Gala:
