Les Garrigues was the first recognised designation of origin (DO) for a food product in the Spanish state (1975), and it was certified by the European Union as a protected designation of origin in 1996. PDO is a certifying body which submits the oil of the registered cooperatives to rigorous production and processing tests, guaranteeing the origin and maximum quality of what, without a doubt, is one of the best oils in the world.
